Welcome to the Parsippany Girl Scout Service Unit webpage! Our Service Unit serves girls in the Parsippany – Troy Hills community and is part of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey council.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Parsippany Girl Scouts welcomes all girls who wish to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Age-progressive activities enable girls to develop leadership, explore interest areas, learn the value of community service, and learn positive decision making skills, all under the guidance of trained adult volunteers.
Girl Scouting is open to all girls in grades K-12. Girl Membership is $27 per year. Adult membership is $15 per year.
We have many openings on our Parsippany Service Unit that we need to get filled. Please consider stepping up or pair up with a friend! We need these key positions filled to have a successful Service Unit in Parsippany.
Service Unit Manager (SUM): Can be multiple volunteers in this position! The SUM is the liaison between Council and Parsippany leaders. If we can get a few people trained for this position, it would make the job easier and less time consuming. Training is provided.
TGAA Reviewer: Reviews and approves a Troop Group Activity Approval Forms for all troop activities outside the normal troop/group meeting place or time. The form is submitted to you at least two weeks prior to the proposed activity for approval. You would check if the leader’s trainings are up-to-date, if Plan 2 insurance is needed, if a certificate of insurance is on file. Training is available.
Troop Organizers: We like to have a Troop Organizer in each school. Time frame for a TO is September – October, setting up new troops, then afterwards it would be adding new girls who later decide they want to be in Girl Scouting or they just moved to the area. TO’s are also the “go to” person for leaders in each chosen school. Training is available. Troop Organizers are needed in the following schools: Eastlake, and St Elizabeth.
Memorial Day Parade/Veteran’s Affairs Coordinator: For the parade, this person will be in charge of completing the paperwork (one short form) for the town, sending out a flyer to the service unit, completing the TGAA, collecting rosters, and sending the town a list of which troops are marching. This position also coordinates the “planting flags” done in early May. That is run by a rotating schedule between the VFW Post and the American Legion Post. Again, sending word out to the service unit, completing a TGAA, and collecting rosters. The position would also handle any other veteran-related activities that may come up.
